Vital Statistics

All Local Health Departments in Ohio can now issue birth certificates for anyone born in Ohio.  Call your local health department for more information.


A statewide system of registration of births, deaths, fetal deaths, and other vital statistics was established in 1909 to the present.  Probate Court has records starting in 1867 through 1908.

Certified copies, of these records, are all that is available.  We are no longer allowed to issue non-certified copies. (See "Obtaining  Birth or Death Certificate")

There are three Health Departments for Hancock County.  Depending on where the death occurred, will determine where the record is filed.  (See "Links to Surrounding Health Departments")
