Truancy Court

Truancy can be a first step toward a lifetime of unemployment and incarceration.  In this program, a team of professionals works together to determine the barriers that are impeding each child’s ability to be successful at school and are putting the child’s high school graduation at risk.  The hope is to intervene early.  The Court partners with all of the schools in Hancock County.  The goal of the Hancock County Truancy Court is to improve overall school attendance and compliance with mandatory school attendance guidelines.  The program requires each child proceed through three steps until they can graduate from the program successfully.  Once the child successfully completes the program, all costs are waived and the matter is terminated without further court contact.
